Buses from Reykjavík Airport with Bus Routes and Times
Reykjavík Airport is located about 1.2 miles/2 km from the City Center of Reykjavík in Iceland.
The bus services in Iceland are well known to be changing their routes and schedule quite often. Therefore, it is a good idea to always keep up to date with schedules and fares from the different bus companies’ websites. From RKV Airport, all passengers can find scheduled public buses operated by Stræto that can bring them to and from their further destination.
Scheduled public buses - Stræto operations
The public bus system operated by Strætó in Iceland offers an affordable and reliable way to travel between the airport and your further destination. When using the public bus system passengers can transfer from Reykjavík Airport to many places within the city of Reykjavík.
A bus ride from the airport to Reykjavik City Center takes on average 10 minutes, depending on the traffic and the different bus stops along the way.
From Reykjavik Airport, passengers can take bus number 15.
Stræto also operates regular buses around Reykjavík and its suburbs as well as long-distance buses.
The buses run from 7:00 am until 11:00 pm or midnight every day (however, on Sundays the buses operate from 11:00 am onwards). The buses depart at 15-minutes or 30-minutes intervals.
You can also find a limited night-bus service that runs until 4.30 am on Fridays and Saturdays. These buses only stop at designated bus stops, which are marked with a yellow letter “S”.
Ticket prices for Stræto buses are as follows:
- Adult single-ticket: 480.00 Icelandic króna (ISK)
- Children (aged 6-17 years old) single ticket: 240.00 Icelandic króna (ISK)
- Elderly (67 years or older) single ticket: 240.00 Icelandic króna (ISK)
- Children: up to 5 years of age can travel for free when accompanied by a paying adult.
Please be aware that the bus drivers in the capital area do not carry any change if you want to pay by cash on the bus.
